Texas Ranchers Roundup - Playoffs Hang in the Balance
Friday 10/25 UPDATE: The Ranchers have officially secured an MLP Playoff spot!
You can catch them in action on November 2nd and 3rd for Round 1 of the MLP Playoffs in Dallas.
The Texas Ranchers had a tough event at MLP Las Vegas.
The team played without Christian Alshon due to an injury he encountered on the PPA Tour, and on day 2 the Ranchers had to forfeit game 3 of their match against rivals Dallas Flash Pickleball after Etta Wright fell ill.
With two key players out, The Texas Ranchers were supported by Anderson Scarpa and Lindsey Newman, who filled in admirably for America's Pickleball Team.
Shout out to honorary and forever Ranchers, Anderson Scarpa and Lindsey Newman!
The match results were as follows:
Lost 1-3 vs New Jersey 5s
Won 3-1 vs LA Mad Drops
Lost 0-4 vs rival Dallas Flash Pickleball
Lost 0-4 vs STL Shock
Lost 1-3 against the Columbus Slider
All said and done, this was not the event the Texas Ranchers were expecting or needing, as they secured only 3 out of a possible 15 points from their last MLP event of the season.
The Texas Ranchers currently sit in 4th place and have completed all 23 of their matches this season. Where does this leave them heading into the playoffs?
MLP Premiere standings heading into the last MLP event of the season
The top 6 MLP Premiere League teams by points make it to the playoffs, with the number 1 and 2 seeded teams getting a first round bye. The STL Shock have secured a first-round bye with 52 total points, and the Dallas Flash and New Jersey 5s have both also secured playoff spots while also vying for the second seed and a first-round bye.
MLP teams receive 3 Points for a regulation win, 2 points for a Dreambreaker win, and 1 point for a Dreambreaker loss.
With 38 total points for the Texas Ranchers, the only teams that could actually catch the Ranchers are D.C. Pickleball Team (30 points, 6 matches left, 48 point potential), NY Hustlers (30 points, 5 matches left, 45 point potential), the AZ Drive (24 points, 5 matches left, 39 point potential), and the Orlando Squeeze (22 points, 6 matches left, 40 point potential).
The likely finish for the 2024 MLP season sees the Ranchers making the playoffs along with STL Shock, Dallas Flash Pickleball, New Jersey 5s, D.C. Pickleball Team, and the NY Hustlers.
That said, the Orlando Squeeze or the AZ Drive also have the potential to make a run at MLP Miami this weekend to bump the Ranchers and secure the last spot by winning all of their matches, however unlikely that may be.
All of this said, for any of the Texas Rancher’s faithful out there who feel worried, check out this YouTube video and the image below from Austin local, pickleball content creator, data wizard, and all around awesome guy Matty Pickles. He predicts the Ranchers have an essentially zero chance of not making the playoffs.
