2024 Austin Pickleball Update Award Nominations are Open!

Nominations are now open for the 2024 Austin Pickleball Update Awards!

The 2024 Austin Pickleball Update Awards highlight and recognize the very best of pickleball in Austin, including clubs, courts, coaches, communities, events, and more. 

These awards are for the Austin pickleball community, and nominations and voting are completely community driven.

Nominations are open during the month of November 2024, and you can submit your nominations here.

The top nominees in each category will move into a run-off competition in December to decide the 2024 winner for each category!

Winners will be announced in our last volume of the year, APU Volume 30, on December 30th. 

Thank you for submitting your nominations, and for helping us recognize the best of pickleball in Austin!

Tournament of the Week - Donate N' Dink

Join Capital City Pickleball for their first event Donate N' Dink Tournament this Sunday, November 10th, from 10am-2pm at Waterloo Pickleball.

This tournament brings the community together for a day of friendly competition, giving back, and delicious food while supporting Central Texas Food Bank.

CCP will provide potluck food, and attendees are encourage to bring non-perishable food donations, as each item gets you a raffle ticket for a chance to win awesome prizes!

The tournament features 4 courts, 6 teams per court, with each team playing 5 games to 11. Each team will be matched randomly, and the top teams from each court will advance to the semifinals and finals to compete for the championship! All skill levels are welcome.

Texas Ranchers Roundup - Championship Run in Full Force

The Texas Ranchers are heading to the 2024 Major League Pickleball Semifinals!

And if (when) all goes to plan, they will make it through to the finals and soon after be the 2024 MLP Champions!

The Ranchers are coming off a stellar victory against D.C. Pickleball this past weekend in Dallas, TX, as part of the first round of the MLP Playoffs.

Round 1 was a best of 3 series, and after losing match 1 on Saturday night 1-3, the Rancher came back in full force, winning matches 2 and 3 on Sunday 3-1 to take the series with a 2-1 victory.

There were some stellar plays and highlights from across the series, and the match 3 highlight reel here is worth checking out if you want to see some of the best play Major League Pickleball has to offer.

Next up for the Ranchers is the 2024 MLP Semifinal Playoffs in Orlando, November 22-24.

2024 MLP Playoff Semifinal Potential Matchups

The Ranchers next opponents in the semifinals are currently TBD, as the first seed New Jersey 5s have the advantage of picking whether they will play the Texas Ranchers or Dallas Flash Pickleball. Whoever the 5s pick, the remaining team will play STL Shock.

We’ll have an update in our next issue, APU Volume 27, around where the Texas Ranchers finished in the 2024 MLP Playoffs (as well as hopefully celebrating their championship).

On top of these huge playoff wins, the Texas Ranchers recently expanded their ownership group with new celebrity investors, including NFL quarterback Tim Tebow, wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster, and former NFL player and entrepreneur Terrence Murphy. These new investors join a star-studded roster that already includes rapper Lil Wayne, golfer Scottie Scheffler, and fashion designer Kendra Scott.

The Texas Ranchers aim to elevate the visibility of pickleball, aligning with their vision of becoming “America’s Pickleball Team.” The expanded roster of influential figures is expected to help strengthen the Ranchers' mission to expand pickleball's popularity and accessibility on a global scale​.

Austin Pickle Ranch Launches 4.5+ DUPR Open Play, New Hours

Guaranteed fire in this kitchen

Austin Pickle Ranch recently launched a new weekly Open Play for players with a verified 4.5+ DUPR rating. Players who want to join will need to connect their DUPR account to sign up.

Additionally, the club announced new hours starting this Monday, 11/4, with earlier mornings and later nights, giving you more opportunities to pickle.

Other Racquet Social Club Reopens Bar & Debuts Bill’s Dips

After a long break to resolve permitting issues, Other Racquet Social Club reopened their bar to the public this past Friday, November 1. As part of this reopen, the club is transitioning from a membership model to a more public focused experience that anyone can enjoy.

Additionally, their are debuting a new food truck, Bill’s Dips (from the same team at Bill’s Oysters) which will provide favorites like Bill’s Burger, Chili Cheese Dogs, Queso Blanco, and soft-serve dipped cones.
